Connecting BC's youth with a career in trades

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) manages trades apprenticeships and markets career opportunities in trades throughout B.C. Over the next 10 years, the Province will experience a surge in trade-related job opportunities and needs to increase the number of young people choosing trades as a career path.

I’ve been directing the design work on ITA’s youth website since its inception in 2013. The types of projects vary and include:

  • Analyzing user testing data
  • Improving user experience
  • Keeping the sites design young and fresh
  • Creating engaging and compelling experiences
  • Building new core pages and components
  • Overall site maintenance
Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy | Information Architecture | Interface Design | Usability Research | UX Optimization | Design Direction

Noteworthy

I designed a digital experience that helps connect young people to a career in trades with an engaging ‘Trade Finder’ tool. Users are presented with a list of attributes that help them to self-identify with the trades in a way that previously did not exist. The benefits of a career in trades are then presented in an aspirational way through design, copy, photography and video.

Measuring Success

The ITA Youth site has been visited over 250,000 times and is integrated into classroom experiences across B.C. to help youth discover and explore opportunities in the trades. .
