Redefining UBC’s online recruitment presence

The University of British Columbia’s prospective student’s website has 2 main objectives: to be a window into what life is like at UBC while providing information about courses, registration, and other administrative content.

I directed the design work done on UBC’s prospective student’s website between 2013-2016. The types of projects varied and included:

  • Improving user & task flows
  • Identifying friction points and designing solutions
  • Building new core pages
  • Designing scalable UI
  • Creating engaging visuals
Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy | Information Architecture | Interface Design | Usability Research | UX Optimization | Design Direction

Noteworthy

I lead the team in revamping the CMS’s entire authoring back-end. This included creating scalable components which streamlined and standardized not only the site’s content but also helped the authors focus on content creation rather than formatting. This new design addressed author usability needs and gave them the tools to work easily and more effectively without compromising design.

Measuring Success

Since my work at UBC’s, the prospective student’s website has seen an increase of 56% in mobile views and across the board increases in TOS and page views. Recruitment goal was to increase student yield 9%; this goal was exceeded with a 17% yield.

Noteworthy

Myself, the Information Architect and the Lead Content Strategist streamlined content from over 1000 legacy pages to just over 100. This included a new site AI, high-fidelity wireframes, and in-depth content organization, tracking, and management. This phase also included the creation of core pages and the rolling out of a new and immersive digital experience which integrated, social, video and photographic content throughout.
